Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has claimed that batsman Hasan Nawaz doesn’t want to open anymore.

He noted that the big-hitter has “embraced his middle order role brilliantly”, while also calling him a “generational talent”.

Nawaz has moved up and down the batting order, but Salman’s comments seem to confirm that he won’t be opening the batting, even though he usually plays as an opener in domestic cricket.

“He is loving batting in the middle order now and doesn’t want to open anymore. He has embraced his middle order role brilliantly – this generational talent is transforming our line-up,” Salman was quoted as saying by ARY News.

Nawaz’s form has taken a major dip as of late as during the home series against South Africa, he could only muster eight runs in three T20Is at an average of four and a strike-rate of 66.66.

In the ODIs that followed, he made one run in the one game he played.

Having failed to impress against the Proteas, Nawaz did not feature in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka and the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

He is now taking part in the International League T20 (ILT20) and has accumulated 99 runs in nine matches for the Desert Vipers at an average of 12.37 and a strike-rate of 117.85.
