Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis has rejected accusations from batsmen Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad that he ruined their careers.

Akmal and Shehzad claimed their playing days were ended by Waqar, who used to coach the national team in the past.

However, the 54-year-old fired back, insisting that he “never hurt them” and implying that the duo simply stopped putting in the effort.

“I don’t understand how they can say I ruined their careers. No one can end someone else’s career. You become your own enemy when your mind leaves cricket and you stop working hard. They are both my younger brothers. I never hurt them in any way,” he was quoted as saying on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Pakistan team recently took on South Africa at home and began by drawing the Test series 1-1.

After that, the men in green triumphed 2-1 in both the T20Is and ODIs.

Pakistan then faced Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series and whitewashed them 3-0.

Next up for them will be a T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, which will take place between November 18 and 29.
