Pakistan opening batsman Awais Zia has questioned why he was “never considered” for international cricket more regularly despite being a top performer in domestic cricket.

Awais has represented his country in five T20Is, where he scored 70 runs at an average of 14.

In his domestic career, the 38-year-old has amassed 5,594 runs in 95 first-class matches, which includes eight centuries and 31 fifties, at an average of 38.05.

He has also accumulated 3,060 runs in 89 List A games, which includes six hundred and 19 half-centuries, at an average of 37.31.

As for his T20 career, the Bhaun native has made 2,051 runs in 89 matches, which includes a century and 10 fifties, at an average of 24.12.

Considering his solid performances in domestic cricket, Awais feels he should have been given more opportunities to play for Pakistan.

“Why was I never considered despite top domestic performances?” he told PakPassion.

The Pakistan team recently toured South Africa and lost the T20I series 2-0 before rebounding to claim a 3-0 victory in the ODIs.

As for the two-Test series, they were beaten 2-0.

The men in green then returned home and faced the West Indies in a two-Test series in Multan, which ended as a 1-1 draw.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be an ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa.

After this, they will feature in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be held from February 19 to March 9.
