Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed said he is ready to get a new central contract despite not playing regularly for the national team.

Sarfaraz has fallen behind Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan’s go-to wicketkeeper-batsman, but still normally gets picked in the Test squad.

The 37-year-old also stressed that he has full faith in his fitness and is ready to prove that he can adhere to elite standards.

“I am ready for the central contract and fitness test if [I] get called,” he was quoted as saying by Samaa TV.

Sarfaraz had been part of the Pakistan team for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, but watched on from the sidelines as the men in green were beaten 2-0.

Currently, he is a player-mentor for the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over competition taking place in Faisalabad.

In the one game he has played, the Karachi native scored five runs.

The Pakistan team will return to action next month when they go up against England in a three-match Test series from October 7 to 28.
