Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz has slammed some of the national players for their poor fitness levels, saying they “couldn’t even run 2 km.”

He blamed this problem on the previous management, noting that they didn’t bother finding out how fit the players were.

Wahab added that they also “pampered the players a lot”, which did more harm than good.

“The previous management did not ask the players about their fitness levels. The logic behind this was that they pampered the players a lot. Some of the players couldn’t even run 2 km,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Pakistan team recently lost 3-0 to Australia in a Test series before being crushed 4-1 in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

Many of the Pakistan players will now take part in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which begins on February 17.
