Legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara has revealed that he was incredibly impressed with Pakistan captain Azhar Ali’s unbeaten 141 in the third Test against England.
Azhar, who was under pressure going into the match for his poor form with the bat, silenced his critics with his superb knock of 141, which came off 272 balls and included 21 boundaries.
Lara was so impressed that he called Azhar’s innings “one of the best Test hundreds” he had seen and “one of the best captain’s knocks in modern cricket”.
“Captain Azhar Ali batting to save his country a Test match with no chance of winning [and to play] pretty much dull cricket if he was to achieve it. But quite the opposite I was watching one of the best Test hundreds and rearguard action I have ever seen,” Lara said in an Instagram post as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
“Two great partnerships with Fawad Alam and Mohammed Rizwan but Azhar Ali played one of the best captain’s knocks in modern cricket. I know Trinbago Knight Riders won their CPL match but my remote remained untouched. Well played Azhar Ali. True captain’s knock.”
The third Test ended as a draw, which meant that England won the series 1-0.
