Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed believes the national team should retain opening batsman Fakhar Zaman even though he is going through a rough patch.

Zaman struggled during the recently concluded three-match Twenty20 series against Australia, which Pakistan lost 2-0, as he accumulated a measly two runs in two matches at an average of one.

Despite Zaman’s form having nosedived as of late, Sarfaraz believes it would be a mistake to drop the 29-year-old.

“We need to support these players, including the likes of Fakhar Zaman. Although Fakhar has been struggling, [don’t forget he] had a century in the Champions Trophy final. He has also scored an [ODI] double century,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying by Geo News.

  1. He is not a proper opening batsman. He does not have good technique to play good spinners, rising ball is just a nightmare for him. Abid Ali is a far better batsman and may be used in one day games as well as in test matches. The best description for Fakhar Zaman is “a batsman with fluke” , Tulle BAZ.
