Steve Smith smashed an unbeaten 80 as Australia cruised to a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the second Twenty20 International in Canberra.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan lost opener Fakhar Zaman early on as he was caught by David Warner at mid-off off the bowling of Pat Cummins for two runs.

Haris Sohail didn’t fare much better as he was caught and bowled by Kane Richardson for six runs.

Mohammad Rizwan mustered 14 runs before he was stumped by Alex Carey off the bowling of Ashton Agar.

Asif Ali fell shortly after, while captain Babar Azam, who opened the batting, scored a 38-ball 50, which included six boundaries, before he was run out by Warner.

Iftikhar Ahmed and Imad Wasim added 40 runs to the score before Imad was run out by Smith for 11.

With Iftikhar going on to score a career-best 62 not out, which came off 34 balls and included five boundaries and three sixes, Pakistan finished on 150/6.

Agar was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Richardson and Cummins chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 151 to win, Australia got off to a brisk start before David Warner was clean bowled by Mohammad Amir for 20.

Captain Aaron Finch made 17 before he was caught by Azam at mid-off off the bowling of Mohammad Irfan.

Smith and Ben McDermott steadied things with a 58-run partnership before McDermott was trapped lbw off the bowling of Imad for 21.

Smith and Ashton Turner mopped up the remaining runs as Australia won the match with nine balls to spare.

Smith finished on 80, which came off 51 balls and included 11 boundaries and a six, while Turner remained undefeated on eight.

Irfan, Amir and Imad claimed one wicket each.

Smith was named Man of the Match.
