Legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has admitted that the national team are in desperate need of power hitters.
Afridi’s comments come after Pakistan were whitewashed 3-0 in their three-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka in Lahore recently.
Afridi, who was one of the best big hitters Pakistan has ever produced, was less than impressed with Pakistan’s performance, and also pointed out that they only hit five sixes throughout the three matches.
“Pakistan missed the element of power-hitting in the series against Sri Lanka. We managed to hit only [five] sixes and we are not seeing the expected talent when it comes to hitting,” Afridi said in a video as quoted by the Business Recorder.
“Power hitters have always played a very important role in Pakistan cricket, for example Abdul Razzaq was a fine hitter. Meanwhile, players such as (Chris) Gayle, (Kieron) Pollard, (MS) Dhoni are renowned power hitters. Why we are not getting such players is a concern which should be addressed.”
