Former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail has lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for appointing Misbah-ul-Haq as head coach and chief selector.

Sohail’s comments come after Pakistan were whitewashed 3-0 in the recently concluded Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka in Lahore.

However, the men in green triumphed 2-0 in the ODI series that preceded it.

Despite this, Sohail firmly feels as if the PCB made a huge mistake in naming Misbah head coach and chief selector.

“To me, the fiasco with the Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad comebacks is also a clear indication of the fact that Misbah-ul-Haq has no idea of what job he has to do and what is expected of him,” Sohail wrote in his blog for PakPassion. “But then let’s not be too harsh on him as it’s really the people who appointed him who should be taken to task for this mistake. If a person who has never had any experience of being a coach is appointed as Head Coach of Pakistan and also given the task of being Chief Selector, then who should be blamed for that?

“Think of it from a player’s point of view. If you are having some issues with your game, you normally go to the coach and explain the problems. If that same person happens to be the Chief Selector who could drop you for the next series, you would be very hesitant in approaching someone like Misbah and that will not help Pakistan in any way at all. The fact is that players will not find it easy or possible to interact with a person who is their Head Coach and also Chief Selector and so, [the] PCB have made a blunder and they must now suffer the consequences.”
