Stuart Broad and Jack Leach took four wickets apiece as England crushed Australia by 135 runs on the fourth day of the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval.

Starting off the day on 313/8, England only added four runs to their overnight score before Jofra Archer was caught behind off the bowling of Pat Cummins for three runs.

England ended up being bowled out for 329, which set Australia a target of 399 to win, when Leach was dismissed by Nathan Lyon for nine runs.

Lyon was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Cummins, Peter Siddle and Mitchell Marsh chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Chasing 399 to win, Australia lost opener Marcus Harris in the fifth over as he was clean bowled by Broad for nine runs.

David Warner only made 11 runs before he was caught by Rory Burns in the slip cordon off the bowling of Broad.

Marnus Labuschagne didn’t fare much better as he was stumped by Jonny Bairstow off the bowling of Leach for 14.

Steve Smith, who until this point had surpassed fifty in all his innings in the series, mustered 23 runs before he was caught by Ben Stokes at leg gully off the bowling of Broad.

Marsh and Matthew Wade halted England’s charge with a 63-run partnership before Marsh was caught by Jos Buttler at short leg off the bowling of England captain Joe Root.

Wade and skipper Tim Paine added 52 runs to the score before Paine was trapped lbw off the bowling of Leach for 21.

Cummins made nine runs before he was caught behind off the bowling of Broad, while Wade went on to score a career-best 117, which came off 166 balls and included 17 boundaries and a six, before he was stumped by Bairstow off the bowling of Root.

Leach then sent Lyon and Josh Hazlewood packing in successive deliveries to bowl Australia out for 263.

Broad and Leach took four wickets apiece, while Root claimed two.

Archer was named Man of the Match for his figures of 6-62 in the first innings.
