Mohammad Nabi hammered an unbeaten 84 to lead Afghanistan to a 25-run win over Bangladesh in the third match of the T20 tri-series in Dhaka.

Electing to bat first, Afghanistan got off to the worst possible start as opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was clean bowled by Mohammad Saifuddin on the first ball of the match.

Hazratullah Zazai only made one run before he was dismissed by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan.

Najeeb Tarakai was sent packing by Saifuddin for 11, while Najibullah Zadran became Shakib’s second victim after scoring five runs.

Nabi and Asghar Afghan came to the rescue with a 79-run partnership before Asghar was caught by Sabbir Rahman at long-on of the bowling of Saifuddin for 40.

Even though Gulbadin Naib fell shortly after, Afghanistan finished on 164/6 thanks to Nabi’s unbeaten 84, which came off 54 balls and included three boundaries and seven sixes.

Saifuddin was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Shakib chipped in with two.

Chasing 165 to win, Bangladesh lost Liton Das on the second ball of their innings as he was caught by Tarakai at cover off the bowling of Mujeeb Ur Rahman for a duck.

Mushfiqur Rahim only made five runs before he was clean bowled by Fareed Ahmed, while Shakib was dismissed by Mujeeb for 15.

Mujeeb struck again four balls later as he trapped Soumya Sarkar lbw for a golden duck.

Sabbir and Mahmudullah halted Afghanistan’s charge with a 58-run partnership before Mahmudullah was sent packing by Naib for 44.

Once Mahmudullah was gone, Bangladesh began to lose wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 139.

Mujeeb was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Fareed, Naib and captain Rashid Khan claimed two wickets each.

Nabi was named Man of the Match.
