Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has admitted that he isn’t eager to captain the national team, but added that it is up to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to decide who leads the side.

Azam’s comments come after legendary Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad said Azam should lead the men in green in ODIs.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of current captain Sarfraz Ahmed, after Pakistan narrowly missed out on qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals.

Some reports indicate that he will be stripped of the captaincy entirely, while others state he will lead Pakistan in fewer formats.

“It’s up to the Pakistan Cricket Board to decide whoever captains the teams and in whichever format,” Azam told The Cricket Paper as quoted by PakPassion. “The board will decide who the captain or captains are and the players of course abide by their choice.

“I’ve never really thought about captaining Pakistan and have in all honesty only thought about playing for my country. I am not someone who craves being captain and am more interested in scoring runs for Pakistan.

“Whoever the board chooses is the right choice and in fact I think Sarfraz Ahmed is fine and is doing a good job at the moment.”

  1. Let’s not waste Baber Azam the great batsman by putting the pressure of captaincy over his shoulders. Sarfraz Ahmed is doing well in shorter version of the game. For test matches maybe we look someone who is solid consistent analytic and bold in taking decisions during the match. He must lead from the front by setting his on example as being more professional n consultant in his own performance.
