Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) media director Sami-ul-Hasan Burney has denied rumours that batsman Fawad Alam was handed an unofficial ban by the board for being involved in match-fixing.

Alam hasn’t played for Pakistan since April 2015, but has been one of the top performers on the domestic circuit over the past couple of years.

The 33-year-old currently averages 56.08 in first-class cricket, 48.71 in List A cricket and 30.93 in Twenty20s.

“I want to make it clear that there is no ban on any player by the PCB,” Burney told cricketpakistan.com.pk. “But the matters regarding selection are in the hands of the national selection committee and they will be better equipped to answer that question.”
