Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has revealed that he is determined to lead Somerset to victory in the 2019 Vitality Blast after his excellent performance in the World Cup.
Azam scored a 23-ball 35, which included four boundaries, in Somerset’s eight-wicket win over Glamorgan in Cardiff on Thursday.
This comes after Azam accumulated 474 runs in eight World Cup matches, which included a century and three fifties, at an average of 67.71.
“My World Cup has gone very well so I am hoping that my form is going to continue for Somerset,” he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “I have worked very hard and before the start of the World Cup we had a series against England, so I was feeling very confident and really ready for it.
“I like playing here in England and now I am looking forward to playing for Somerset against other counties. Somerset have already won the One-Day Cup so hopefully this year I can help them to go one step further and win the T20 [tournament] as well.
“I am looking forward to playing in front of my home crowd at Taunton. I would like to ask the supporters to come along and cheer Somerset on.”
