Wahab Riaz moved past Imran Khan as Pakistan’s second-highest wicket-taker in World Cup history

Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz surpassed legendary captain and current Prime Minister Imran Khan as the country’s second-highest wicket-taker in World Cup history on Friday.

Wahab achieved the feat after cleaning up Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim for 16.

With that dismissal, Wahab took his number of World Cup wickets to 35, which saw him move past Imran, who took 34 in 28 matches at an average of 19.26 during his illustrious career.

Imran played in five World Cups between 1975 and 1992, which Pakistan won, while Wahab has taken 35 wickets in 20 games across three World Cups at an average of 26.45.

Legendary left-arm seamer Wasim Akram still holds the record for the most World Cup wickets for Pakistan as he took 55 wickets in 38 matches at an average of 23.83.

In this World Cup, Wahab finished with 11 wickets in eight games at an average of 36.36.
