Wahab Riaz to his newly-signed manager Ameen ul Haq: “Bro, my cricket is finished”

Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz admitted that he thought his cricket career was over when he injured his ankle during the Champions Trophy in 2017.

Wahab, who suffered the injury in Pakistan’s clash with arch-rivals India, made the shocking admission to his newly-signed manager Ameen ul Haq.

“Bro, my cricket is finished,” Wahab told Ameen as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

After the Champions Trophy match where he got injured against India, Wahab wasn’t picked for another ODI until he was included in Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing World Cup.

While Wahab did play Test cricket during that period of time, he admitted that it was an extremely difficult and emotional two years for him.

“The last two years I cannot describe to you how frustrated I was, and how disappointed, after the Champions Trophy,” he said.

After going from not being in the 23 probables for the World Cup to being included in the squad, Wahab has repaid the faith invested in him as he has taken 10 wickets in seven World Cup matches at an average of 36.70.

He also scored a crucial 15 not out, which included a vital boundary and six, in Pakistan’s nail-biting three-wicket win over Afghanistan with just two balls to spare.

That victory kept Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.

However, they now face a monumental task of reaching the last four as they have to demolish Bangladesh by a massive margin at Lord’s on Friday.
