Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes that the national team’s coaching staff has to be revamped after the World Cup.

Pakistan have not been at their best during the tournament and face a near-impossible task to qualify for the semi-finals as they have to beat Bangladesh at Lord’s on Friday by over 300 runs.

If they fail to do so, New Zealand will join Australia, India and England in the last four instead of them.

Given how slim Pakistan’s chances are of making the semi-finals, Akhtar admitted that “in order to get match winners back in the team, you got to bring a match winning management”.

Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur’s contract expires after the World Cup and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that it will review the performance of the coaching staff after the conclusion of the tournament.

“Our prime minister is a former cricketer and we have heard that [he] is going to revamp the whole structure. That is what I am hoping for,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “If you want to change, you need to bring proper people who understand the game of cricket, who have played modern cricket, who have actually accomplished [something] and [are] not working just for money.”
