Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has revealed that the national team were targeting Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib when batting on Saturday.

Imad’s comments come after he took the attack to Naib in the death overs and led Pakistan to a three-wicket win with two balls to spare.

Imad’s unbeaten 49, which came off 54 balls and included five boundaries, also kept the men in green’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.

The 30-year-old pointed out that the national team had Naib in their crosshairs since the Afghanistan spinners were bowling very well.

“Gulbadin was the only bowler to be targeted to be honest as the wicket was turning square and they have world-class spinners. If you take risks against them, they might take your wicket,” Imad was quoted as saying by PakPassion.

“The idea was to knock them for singles and doubles and then when the fast bowlers [came] in, we just attacked.”

With Pakistan having defeated Afghanistan, they will now have to beat Bangladesh at Lord’s on Friday to have any chance of reaching the last four.
