Pakistan batsman Haris Sohail has revealed that his and Babar Azam’s roles in the national team are to “build partnerships”.

Haris’ comments come after he and Azam forged an 81-run partnership in the team’s 49-run win over South Africa.

The duo followed that up with a 126-run partnership in Pakistan’s six-wicket win over New Zealand on Wednesday.

Haris struck a 76-ball 68, which included five boundaries and two sixes, while Azam went on to score an unbeaten 101, which came off 127 balls and included 11 boundaries.

Their efforts with the bat not only helped Pakistan keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive, but also handed New Zealand their first loss in the tournament.

“We, Babar and I, are given a role and that is to build partnerships and in both the games I had good stands with Babar and I am sure that will continue,” Haris was quoted as saying by AFP.

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday.

If they beat Afghanistan, Pakistan will then have to take down Bangladesh at Lord’s on July 5 in order to have any chance of reaching the last four.

However, even if they defeat Afghanistan and Bangladesh, it might not be enough as they will have to rely on the results of other matches.
