Ex-Pakistan left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim has revealed that captain Sarfraz Ahmed, all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez and spinner Imad Wasim “hold the key for Pakistan”.
Qasim’s comments come after Pakistan beat South Africa by 49 runs on Sunday and kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.
Sarfraz has scored 117 runs in five games, which includes one half-century, at an average of 29.25.
Hafeez has accumulated 175 runs in five matches, which includes a fifty, at an average of 35. He has also taken two wickets at an average of 62.50.
As for Imad, he hasn’t taken any wickets, but has amassed 70 runs in three games at an average of 35.
Qasim noted that the national team should now focus their last three group stage matches, starting with their clash against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Sunday.
“Hafeez and Sarfraz, along with Imad, hold the key for Pakistan now, as the team should forget about the run-rate and focus on winning the last three matches,” Qasim told The Nation. “Pakistan has the tendency of beating top rivals, just like they did [against] England earlier. But on the other hand, they are also known for throwing things away when everything is under control.”
