Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is not at all surprised that the national players are being personally attacked by the media.
Afridi’s comments come after Pakistan lost to arch-rivals India by 89 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in their World Cup clash on Sunday.
India’s victory extended their unbeaten streak against Pakistan as they have now won all seven of their meetings against their arch-rivals in the World Cup.
To make matters worse, Pakistan have now only won one of the five World Cup games they have played.
Afridi noted that whenever the men in green lose, they will be targeted by the media.
“Is this the first time this has happened? [Dragging families into the criticism of cricketers], this happens every time when we lose,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “This is because people have huge expectations from Pakistan players and I believe the media should have a positive role also.”
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
