Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir admitted that he was thrilled to have picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs in his side’s World Cup match against Australia on Wednesday.

Amir, who finished with figures of 5-30 off his 10 overs, dismissed Australia captain Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc.

However, his efforts with the ball went in vain as Pakistan lost the match by 41 runs.

“We didn’t bowl how we were supposed to be bowling in first 15 overs otherwise we would have restricted Australia earlier. I realised that after my first over where I had to [bowl] and I bowled according to that,” Amir was quoted as saying by Geo.tv.

“I am happy that after 10 years [after] my international debut I have taken my first five-for [in ODIs], but I would’ve been more happy and joyous if Pakistan had won the game.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against arch-rivals India in Manchester on Sunday.
