Legendary Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas is “really confident” that the national team will beat Sri Lanka in their World Cup clash in Bristol on Friday.
Pakistan will brimming with confidence coming into the match as they defeated England, who are considered to be among the favourites to win the tournament, by 14 runs in Nottingham on Monday.
“I’m really confident that we are going to win tomorrow,” Zaheer told The News International. “The way we beat England in our last game, I think we can beat any team in this tournament.
“The way Sri Lanka have played in the recent past and in their two previous World Cup games make them one of the weaker sides in the tournament. That means you have to win against them to make sure that you stay in the hunt for a place in the semi-finals.”
However, with Sri Lanka having beaten Afghanistan by 34 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in their last match, Abbas admitted that Pakistan cannot afford to underestimate them.
“This is the World Cup. Here you can’t take anything for granted. The Sri Lankans might not be at their best but they are an unpredictable team. Pakistan must be at their best.”
