Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has revealed that the national team has “given everyone new hope” after their incredible World Cup win over England.

Pakistan came into the match on a low as they were demolished by seven wickets in their World Cup opener against the West Indies, where they were skittled out for 105.

With England being one of the frontrunners to win the World Cup and having beaten Pakistan 4-0 in their recent five-match ODI series, they were considered the favourites going into the match.

However, Pakistan put up an inspiring performance and subsequently handed England a 14-run loss.

The men in green’s win over England also snapped their 11-game losing streak in ODIs.

“The way Pakistan played against England has given everyone new hope,” Akram said on Geo’s program Swing Ka Sultan. “Winning against the favourites after being outclassed in the first game has boosted everyone. This win was very important for Pakistan team.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday.
