Waqar Younis: “He is a wicket-taker, pure and simple, so if he can get it right moving forward then other teams will have to watch out”

Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Waqar Younis has admitted that he sees left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir as a wicket-taker.

Younis’ comments come after Amir took figures of 3-26 off his six overs in Pakistan’s seven-wicket loss to the West Indies.

Younis admitted that Amir’s three-for was the only bright spot for Pakistan in their dismal World Cup opener as prior to the World Cup, the 27-year-old had five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60 since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017.

“Mohammad Amir was probably the big positive from the day. He picked up a couple of wickets which will be good for his confidence. As a guy who was originally left out of the squad and then brought back in, it is important that he feels good about himself,” he was quoted as saying by the Deccan Chronicle.

“He is a wicket-taker, pure and simple, so if he can get it right moving forward then other teams will have to watch out.”

Pakistan’s next match will be against hosts England in Nottingham on Monday.
