Shoaib Akhtar: “I think spinners will play a crucial role in the World Cup”

Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes the national team’s spinners will play a “crucial role” during the World Cup.

Akhtar admitted that Pakistan will need to find ways to take wickets and put the opposing team on the back foot throughout the tournament.

With that in mind, he admitted that the spinners will contribute to that massively.

“I think spinners will play a crucial role in the World Cup,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “Shadab Khan looked a bit rusty during the warm-up game against Afghanistan but I’m hopeful that he will soon get back to his best.

“Also Imad Wasim, along with Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik, can also chip in with valuable contributions with the ball.”

Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on Friday.
