Former England batsman and well known cricket commentator David Lloyd has issued a warning to other teams, saying they shouldn’t underestimate Pakistan at the World Cup.

Pakistan have struggled in ODIs this year as they were beaten 3-2 by South Africa and whitewashed 5-0 by Australia in the United Arab Emirates.

In their most recent ODI series against England, they lost 4-0.

However, should any teams make the mistake of letting their guard down when going up against the men in green during the World Cup, Lloyd pointed out that they “could be in for a surprise”.

“Every team in the World Cup will be saying to themselves, don’t underestimate Pakistan or you will come unstuck. Any team that underestimates Pakistan could be in for a surprise,” Lloyd told PakPassion.

When asked who he considers the frontrunner to win the World Cup, Lloyd said: “England are favourites, Australia are coming good and India will be a firepower team. Pakistan are always there or thereabouts, but nobody has mentioned New Zealand. I’ve watched New Zealand closely and they are a fine team, a very good team and they are used to punching above their weight.”

Pakistan will play two World Cup warm-up games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Bristol and Cardiff on May 24 and 26 respectively.

They will then begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
