Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez could very well be fit for the second ODI against England in Southampton on Saturday, according to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official.

Hafeez had a second operation done on his fractured thumb in March, but managed to prove his fitness and get into the World Cup squad.

While it was initially said that he would miss the one-off Twenty20 International, which he did, and the first two ODIs against England, the official said that he may now be fit to feature in the second ODI.

However, Hafeez will have to get through a series of training sessions in London in order prove that he is fit.

“He (Hafeez) is one of our key players and the idea is to have him play [the] maximum possible matches before the World Cup begins,” the official told The News International.

Pakistan’s five-match ODI series against England begins on Wednesday at The Oval.

After the series, Pakistan will play two World Cup warm-up games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Bristol and Cardiff on May 24 and 26 respectively.

They will then kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
