Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has made it clear that he won’t be paying attention to what the critics say about him or the national team during the World Cup.

Since Malik will be retiring from ODIs after the showpiece event, he is fully focused on helping Pakistan taste World Cup glory for the first time since 1992.

He also called on the media and critics to not criticise players for “non-technical reasons” during the Wold Cup.

“I hope the critics will not [scrutinise] players’ [performances] during the World Cup on non-technical reasons,” he was quoted as saying by Dawn. “I have no complaints against anchors but against [some] former cricketers, who just focus on dropping or bringing a player on the basis of [their] liking and disliking.

“I don’t follow the Pakistani media, so what it says about me I don’t care. The big thing is that it is my last World Cup and I am in the team and I will try my best to give my best for the team as I always played for my team [and] not for myself.”
