Mir Hamza: “This was a very tough pill to swallow for me when my peers were busy playing in the PSL this year and I was sitting at home watching these games on TV”

Pakistan left-arm pace bowler Mir Hamza has admitted that it “was a very tough pill to swallow” when he was not picked by any team for the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Hamza is currently playing county cricket for Sussex, but conceded that it was gutting to miss out on Pakistan’s elite Twenty20 competition.

In his ongoing stint with Sussex, the 26-year-old has taken six wickets in two County Championship matches at an average of 29.16.

He also made his List A debut for the club in their Royal London One-Day match against Surrey on Friday, where he finished with figures of 4-43 off nine overs.

“I have always maintained the view that a good player should always be involved in cricket,” he told PakPassion. “It doesn’t matter what level of cricket it is such as the national side, league matches, domestic games or a high-quality competition like the PSL, a cricketer cannot be sitting idle at any time of the year.

“So, this was a very tough pill to swallow for me when my peers were busy playing in the PSL this year and I was sitting at home watching these games on TV. Not playing the PSL this year was truly a difficult time for me but that is the exact reason why I have worked very hard this year to ensure that there is no reason for me to be ignored for Pakistan’s premier Twenty20 tournament again.”
