Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has admitted that young fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain was included in the World Cup squad solely due to his “sheer pace and speed”.

Hasnain stole the spotlight during the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he claimed 12 wickets in seven games for the Quetta Gladiators at an average of 17.58.

With the 19-year-old capable of bowling at speeds of around 150km/h on a consistent basis, he was called up to the Pakistan team for the recent ODI series against Australia, where he took two wickets in three games at an average of 78.

Inzamam noted that while Hasnain has only featured in three ODIs so far, he has already make his presence felt at the international level.

“Hasnain has been selected due to his sheer pace and speed,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “He may not have played many ODIs but he has already made an impact by making the top batsmen hop and run in his brief career while also picking up wickets.”
