Pakistan opener Abid Ali scored a sensational 112 in his ODI debut in the fourth ODI against Australia, and dedicated it to his daughter and the rest of his family.

Despite his knock and Mohammad Rizwan’s 104, Pakistan still lost the match by six runs and now trail 4-0 in the series.

“Obviously, I would have been much happier if the team had won the game,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “When Umar Akmal and Saad Ali lost their wickets is when things got a little difficult as this was a time when we needed a run a ball.

“We were playing big shots but it’s a little disappointing that we did not finish the job. I found [out] about my debut in the morning, as Imam had a fever.

“When I did find out, I was very happy and positive also as I had been doing well in the current season and scoring well. I was just looking for an opportunity to prove myself which I did today.

“Our domestic cricket is very tough and there is no doubt about it. I would like to dedicate this century to my daughter, and to my family.

“I just needed a door to open for me in terms of an opportunity to play for Pakistan and the Almighty opened that path for me.

“I wanted to give my 100 percent when I got a chance. My family kept asking me if I was playing and I had to say no. They gave me a lot of confidence, my father, wife, mother, daughter. They all told me to be cool and confident and that Allah would reward me.”

Pakistan will be looking to secure a consolation win in the fifth ODI, which will be held on Sunday in Dubai.
