Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has been rested for the last three ODIs of the ongoing five-match series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.

Faheem featured in the first two ODIs in Sharjah and scored 42 runs at an average of 21.

However, he only took one wicket at an average of 95.

According to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) release, the decision was taken by the national selection committee, which is headed by chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, after it consulted the team management.

The release added that Faheem has been rested in order to give him enough time to rest and recuperate ahead of the World Cup in England and Wales later this year.

No replacement will be called up for Faheem as Pakistan already have five seamers in their side.

Pakistan are currently 2-0 down in the five-match series and will be looking to reduce the deficit in the third ODI, which will be held on March 27 in Abu Dhabi.

Since September 2018, Faheem has featured in one Test, eight ODIs and eight Twenty20 Internationals.

Prior to the World Cup, Pakistan will face England in a one-off Twenty20 International and a five-match ODI series from May 5 to 19.

They will also play two World Cup warm-up matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh on May 24 and 26 respectively.

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
