Umar Akmal revealed that he has received a lot of help from Sir Vivian Richards, Moin Khan, Abdul Razzaq and Azam Khan

Pakistan and Quetta Gladiators batsman Umar Akmal has been developing his game with the help of Sir Vivian Richards, Moin Khan, Abdul Razzaq and Azam Khan.

Akmal will represent the Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final against the Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday.

In 11 games, he has scored 277 runs, which includes two half-centuries, at an average of 34.62.

As a result of his form, Akmal was recalled to Pakistan’s ODI squad for the upcoming five-match series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates later this month.

Revealing who has been lending him a helping hand, the 28-year-old admitted he has learnt a lot from Richards, who is the Gladiators’ mentor and one of the best batsmen the West Indies has ever produced.

The team’s head coach and former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has also helped him, along with Azam, who has helped a lot of cricketers in Karachi.

As for Razzaq, who is an ex-Pakistan all-rounder, he has been helping develop Akmal’s power hitting.

“I’m grateful that we have such a big legend [Richards] in our team and I’m learning a lot from him,” Akmal told Dawn. “Apart from him, our head coach Moin Khan is also someone I learn from. I’m working on my power hitting and Razzaq bhai is helping me with it. Azam Khan too has helped me stay on the right track.”
