Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will miss the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand due to a fractured left ring finger.

Shakib sustained the injury while captaining the Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) final against the Comilla Victorians.

Shakib, whose side lost by 17 runs, was struck on the glove by a delivery from Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera.

“An X-ray was done after the match and the results have confirmed a fracture on the left ring finger. The affected area will now have to be immobilised for around three weeks,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

The 31-year-old’s finger will be reassessed after three weeks.

Shakib suffered a finger injury in January last year, and it continued to be problematic until November due to an infection.

The three-match ODI series between New Zealand and Bangladesh begins on February 13 in Napier.

It will then be followed by a three-Test series, which gets underway on February 28 in Hamilton.
