Jonathan Wells smashed a superb 69 to lead the Adelaide Strikers to a five-wicket win over the Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval.

Choosing to bat first, the Scorchers lost opener Nick Hobson early on as he was clean bowled by Billy Stanlake for nine runs.

Cameron Bancroft and Josh Inglis made up for the loss of Hobson with a 41-run partnership before Bancroft was trapped lbw off the bowling of Rashid Khan for 22.

Ashton Turner fell shortly after, while Inglis and captain Mitchell Marsh amassed a 55-run stand before Inglis was run out by Harry Nielsen for 55, which came off 37 balls and included three boundaries and four sixes.

Nathan Coulter-Nile made a quickfire 25, while Sean Terry was cleaned up by Rashid for three.

Marsh went on to score an unbeaten 50, which came off 41 balls and included four boundaries and two sixes, to help the Scorchers finish on 174/6.

Rashid was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Stanlake, Ben Laughlin and Cameron Valente chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 175 to win, the Strikers got off to a brisk start before opener Jake Weatherald was dismissed by Matthew Kelly for nine runs.

Alex Carey, who opened the batting with Weatherald, managed to make 27 before he was caught by Jason Behrendorff at long-on off the bowling of Andrew Tye.

Captain Travis Head fell shortly after, but Wells and Nielsen stabilised the innings with an 88-run partnership, during which Wells brought up his half-century, before he was cleaned up by Coulter-Nile for a 42-ball 69, which included eight boundaries and a six.

Even though Valente was run out by Marsh for five runs, Nielsen led the Strikers to victory with his unbeaten 44, which came off 29 balls and included four boundaries and two sixes.

Coulter-Nile was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Kelly and Tye claimed one wicket each.

Wells was named Man of the Match.
