D’Arcy Short and Caleb Jewell smashed 68 not out and an unbeaten 61 respectively as the Hobart Hurricanes demolished the Brisbane Heat by nine wickets.

Choosing to bowl first, the Hurricanes got an early breakthrough as Heat opener Max Bryant was brilliantly caught by Jofra Archer off the bowling of James Faulkner for seven runs.

Heat captain Chris Lynn failed to have much of an impact as he was caught by George Bailey at mid-off off the bowling of Archer for 10.

With Matt Renshaw and Brendon McCullum falling soon after, the Heat found themselves in trouble at 27/4.

Alex Ross and Jimmy Peirson came to the rescue as they forged a 109-run partnership, during which Ross surpassed his half-century, before he was caught behind off the bowling of David Moody for 62, which came off 35 balls and included eight boundaries and a six.

Peirson went on to score a 48-ball 50, which included three boundaries and two sixes, before he was cleaned up by Faulkner.

Thanks to Ross and Peirson, the Heat finished on 145/6 off their 20 overs.

Faulkner, Archer and Moody picked up two wickets apiece.

Chasing 146 to win, the Hurricanes lost captain Matthew Wade early on as he was caught by Mujeeb Ur Rahman at short fine leg off the bowling of Ben Cutting for 12.

However, that was to be the Heat’s only taste of success as Short and Jewell finished things off with an unbeaten 132-run stand, during which both of them brought up their fifties.

Short ended up making 68, which came off 41 balls and included eight boundaries and a six, while Jewell also struck eight boundaries and a six during his 38-ball 61.

Cutting was the only bowler to take a wicket.
