Marcus Stoinis continued to remain in red-hot form as he smashed 43 and took four wickets to lead the Melbourne Stars to a five-run win over the Brisbane Heat.

Being put in to bat first, the Stars got off to a great start as Stoinis and Ben Dunk amassed a 63-run partnership before Stoinis was trapped lbw off the bowling of Ben Cutting for a 29-ball 43, which included four boundaries and a six.

Dunk went on to make 24 before he was dismissed by Mitchell Swepson.

Stars captain Glenn Maxwell was the next to go, while Peter Handscomb only scored six runs before he was sent packing by Brendan Doggett.

While the Stars continued to lose wickets, Nic Maddinson and Dwayne Bravo’s knocks of 18 and 17 respectively helped their side finish on 134/8.

Cutting, Swepson and Doggett picked up two wickets apiece, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Josh Lalor chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 135 to win, the Heat got off to a quick start before opener Max Bryant was caught by Maddinson at deep midwicket off the bowling of Stoinis for 24.

Heat skipper Chris Lynn failed to trouble the scorers as he was given out lbw off the bowling of Adam Zampa for a duck.

Brendon McCullum only mustered 13 runs before he was removed by Maxwell, while Alex Ross was taken out by Bravo for a golden duck.

Jimmy Peirson and Matt Renshaw helped bring the Heat back into contention as they forged a 57-run partnership before Renshaw was caught behind off the bowling of Stoinis for a 43-ball 45, which included three boundaries.

Stoinis then took out Peirson and Cutting for 26 and six runs respectively before Doggett was run out for one run.

As a result of the late flurry of wickets, the Heat ended up falling agonisingly short of their target as they finished on 129/8 off their 20 overs.

Stoinis was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Zampa, Maxwell and Bravo claimed one wicket each.

Stoinis was named Man of the Match.
