D’Arcy Short continued his fine run of form with the bat as he smashed an unbeaten 96 to lead the Hobart Hurricanes to a 59-run win over the Melbourne Stars.

Being put in to bat first, the Hurricanes got off to a superb start as Short and captain Matthew Wade amassed a 95-run partnership before Wade was dismissed by Tom O’Connell for a 38-ball 41, which included a boundary and a six.

Short and Jake Doran added 43 runs to the score before Doran was caught and bowled by Liam Bowe for seven runs.

Short and Ben McDermott kept the runs flowing with an unbeaten 47-run stand as the Hurricanes finished on 185/2 off their 20 overs.

Short ended up making 96, which came off 57 balls and included eight boundaries and four sixes, while McDermott remained undefeated 27, which came off 19 deliveries and included two sixes.

O’Connell and Bowe picked up one wicket apiece.

Chasing 186 to win, the Stars lost opener Evan Gulbis early on as he was clean bowled by Johan Botha for four runs.

Nick Larkin managed to score 16 before he was dismissed by Riley Meredith.

Ben Dunk, who opened the batting with Gulbis, scored 20 before he was clean bowled by Short.

With Nic Maddinson falling shortly after, the Stars found themselves struggling at 51/4.

Dwayne Bravo and Seb Gotch temporarily kept the Hurricanes at bay with a 43-run partnership before Bravo was sent packing by Meredith for 19.

Gotch went on to score 35 before he was caught by Botha off the bowling of Jofra Archer.

Once Gotch was gone, the Stars crumbled as they went from 106/6 to being bowled out for 126.

Meredith was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Botha and Archer snapped up two wickets apiece. As for Short, he claimed one.

Short was named Man of the Match.
