Captain Colin Ingram smashed a 43-ball 75 and Peter Siddle took three wickets as the Adelaide Strikers downed the Sydney Thunder by 20 runs.

Opting to bat first, the Strikers got off to a brisk start before opener Jake Weatherald was caught and bowled by Jonathan Cook for 11.

Ingram and Alex Carey made up for the loss of Weatherald with a 75-run partnership, during which Carey brought up his half-century, before he was dismissed by Daniel Sams for 59, which came off 40 balls and included nine boundaries and a six.

Ingram went on to score 75, which came off 43 deliveries and included three boundaries and six sixes, before he was removed by Fawad Ahmed.

Matthew Short fell shortly after, but thanks to Ingram and Carey, the Strikers finished on 175/4 off their 20 overs.

Sams was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Cook and Fawad chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 176 to win, the Thunder made a solid start to their innings before opener Jos Buttler was caught by Short at point off the bowling of Siddle for 23.

Shane Watson, who opened the batting with Buttler, managed to score 28 before he was sent packing by Michael Neser.

Siddle then removed Joe Root before Rashid Khan took out Jason Sangha and Sams in quick succession.

Even though Callum Ferguson struck a 39-ball 47, which included four boundaries and a six, the Thunder ended up falling short of their target as they finished on 155/6.

Siddle was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Rashid took two and Neser claimed one.

Siddle was named Man of the Match.
