New Zealand annihilated Sri Lanka on the final day of the second Test in Christchurch as they claimed an impressive 423-run win.

With New Zealand winning the series 1-0, it marked their fourth consecutive series win in the longest format, a record for the Black Caps, as they beat the West Indies and England on home soil last summer before defeating Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year.

Starting off the day on 231/6, Sri Lanka only added two runs to their overnight score before Suranga Lakmal was clean bowled by Trent Boult for 18.

Dilruwan Perera was dismissed by Neil Wagner in the next over before Boult trapped Dushmantha Chameera lbw for three runs in the following over.

Since Angelo Mathews was unable to bat as a result of the hamstring injury he sustained on the fourth day, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 236.

Wagner was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Boult snapped up three and Tim Southee claimed two.

Southee was named Man of the Match for his crucial knock of 68 in the first innings and for taking five wickets.
