Spinner Yasir Shah and pace bowler Hasan Ali both took five-wicket hauls as Pakistan were set 176 to win on the third day of the first Test against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi.

Starting off the day on 56/1, New Zealand lost captain Kane Williamson early on as he was clean bowled by Yasir for 37.

Ross Taylor mustered 19 runs before he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Hasan, who took out Jeet Raval for 46 four balls later.

Henry Nicholls and wicketkeeper BJ Watling stabilised the innings with a 112-run partnership, during which both batsmen brought up their half-centuries.

However, just as New Zealand were beginning to frustrate Pakistan, Yasir had Nicholls caught behind for 55, which came off 171 balls and included three boundaries.

Colin de Grandhomme was the next to go, while Watling went on to score a 145-ball 59, which included five boundaries, before he was given out lbw off the bowling of Yasir.

Yasir sent Neil Wagner packing four balls later before Hasan removed Ish Sodhi and Trent Boult in the space of three balls to bowl New Zealand out for 249, which set Pakistan 176 to win.

Yasir and Hasan picked up five wickets apiece.

Chasing 176 to win, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez amassed an unbeaten 37-run partnership before bad light brought play to an end for the day.

Imam finished on 25, which came off 23 balls and included four boundaries, while Hafeez remained undefeated on eight, which came off 25 deliveries and included a boundary.

Pakistan ended day three on 37/0 and will continue batting on Monday at 10:00 local time or 06:00 GMT.
