St Kitts and Nevis Patriots all-rounder Ben Cutting walloped a six off the penultimate ball of the match to not only lead his side to a two-wicket win over the Jamaica Tallawahs, but also knock them out of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

With their win, the Patriots will now go up against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the second qualifier, and the winner will proceed to the final to face the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Choosing to bowl first, the Patriots got an early breakthrough as Tallawahs opener Johnson Charles was brilliantly caught by Anton Devcich at point off the bowling of Fabian Allen for three runs.

Glenn Phillips and Ross Taylor made up for the loss of Charles with a 70-run partnership before Taylor was clean bowled by Cutting for 33.

Rovman Powell only made 15 runs before being dismissed by Tabraiz Shamsi, while Tallawahs captain Andre Russell was sent packing by Carlos Brathwaite for 10 runs.

Phillips and David Miller ensured the Tallawahs concluded their innings on a high as they forged a 42-run partnership, during which Phillips brought up his hundred.

Phillips ended up being removed on the last ball of the innings for 103, which came off 63 balls and included nine boundaries and six sixes.

Thanks to him and Miller’s quickfire 19, the Tallawahs finished on 191/5.

Cutting was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Allen, Brathwaite and Shamsi chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 192 to win, the Patriots made a dismal start to their innings as opener Devon Thomas was caught by Colin de Grandhomme at deep midwicket off the bowling of Steven Jacobs for 13.

Patriots skipper Chris Gayle and Rassie van der Dussen steadied thing with a 46-run partnership before Van der Dussen was caught behind off the bowling of Ish Sodhi for 20.

Sodhi struck again two balls later as he took out Gayle for 26.

Devcich and Allen stabilised the innings with a 56-run stand before Allen was removed by Sodhi for 23.

Brandon King smashed an eight-ball 21 before he was cleaned up by Oshane Thomas.

Devcich went on to score a 23-ball 50, which included five boundaries and two sixes, before he was caught behind off the bowling of Thomas two balls later.

With Evin Lewis falling for eight runs, the Patriots went into the final over needing 15 runs to win.

Brathwaite failed to get a run off the first ball, but smashed the second one for six. He was then dismissed by Powell the very next ball.

Powell then made costly errors as he bowled three wides in a row before not conceding a run.

Another wide led to Powell having to rebowl the penultimate ball of the match, but it was all Cutting needed to finish things off as he hammered it high over deep midwicket to eliminate the Tallawahs.

Cutting finished unbeaten on 17 off 10 balls, which included two sixes.

Thomas and Sodhi took three wickets apiece, while Powell and Jacobs claimed one wicket each.

Devcich was named Player of the Match.
