Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has confirmed that he will look to bat first throughout the upcoming Asia Cup.

Sarfraz explained that since it is difficult to bat under the lights in the United Arab Emirates, he feels his side will benefit and stand a better chance of winning if they bat first.

“We would prefer to bat first because it is very difficult to bat under lights,” he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “The weather will be very hot and humid under lights, which will help the pace [bowlers]. So, we will try to bat first or choose according to the pitch.”

The 31-year-old added that he has been highly impressed with the national team’s level of fitness.

“As far as professionalism in the team is concerned, the Pakistan team is improving day by day. Out fitness levels are increasing and we are setting new benchmarks of fitness in Pakistan cricket,” he said.

Pakistan will start their Asia Cup campaign against Hong Kong on September 16 in Dubai.
