Kieron Pollard is ecstatic after scoring his maiden Twenty20 century

St Lucia Stars captain Kieron Pollard led by example as he hammered a career-best 104 to lead his side to a 38-run win over the Barbados Tridents.

Pollard’s superb knock also saw the Stars snap their 14-game losing streak and win their first match since July 31, 2016.

Electing to bowl first, the Tridents got an early breakthrough as Stars opener David Warner was caught behind off the bowling of Tridents captain Jason Holder for a duck.

Rahkeem Cornwall smashed an 11-ball 30 before he was caught by Holder at mid-off off the bowling of Wahab Riaz.

Wahab struck again the very next ball as he trapped Lendl Simmons lbw for a golden duck.

Andre Fletcher and Pollard stabilised the innings with a 148-run partnership, during which both batsmen surpassed their half-centuries.

Fletcher ended up making 80 off 52 balls, which included six boundaries and six sixes, before he was caught by Mohammad Irfan at short fine leg off the bowling of Wahab.

Pollard went on to score 104 off 54 deliveries, which included six boundaries and eight sixes, before he was dismissed by Raymon Reifer.

Thanks to Pollard and Fletcher, the Stars finished on 226/6, which is the highest team score in Caribbean Premier League history.

Wahab was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Reifer snapped up two and Holder chipped in with one.

Chasing 227 to win, the Stars made a quick start to their innings as Dwayne Smith and Martin Guptill forged a 44-run partnership in less than five overs before Guptill was clean bowled by Mitchell McClenaghan for seven runs.

Smith went on to make 58 off 45 balls, which included 10 boundaries and a six, before he was dismissed by Qais Ahmad.

Hashim Amla and Nicholas Pooran fell shortly after, but Steve Smith and Shai Hope halted the Stars’ charge with a 58-run partnership.

Smith ended up scoring 28 runs before being removed by Obed McCoy, who also took out Holder.

Hope finished unbeaten on 25, but it was not enough to lead his side to victory as the Tridents concluded their innings on 188/6.

McCoy was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Qais took two and McClenaghan claimed one.

Pollard was named Man of the Match.
