Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Irfan has signed with the Barbados Tridents as a replacement for compatriot and fellow left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan, whose wife is expecting their first child.

Despite last playing for Pakistan in September 2016, Irfan has featured in domestic Twenty20 competitions around the world, with his most recent appearance being at the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada, where he playef for the Edmonton Royals.

Having taken six wickets in as many games at the tournament, Irfan will be hoping to shine in his first-ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season.

“It is a disappointment not to have Junaid available but the experience of another left-arm quick like Mohammed Irfan will be an asset to our campaign,” Tridents head coach Robin Singh was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “He is no stranger to international cricket and this know-how, coupled with his unique ability with the ball, means he will be a key part of the Tridents attack and a handful for opposing batsmen.”

The Tridents, who will be captained by West Indies skipper Jason Holder, will kick off their CPL campaign against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 12.
