Azhar Ali: “I’m not unhappy with the decision and will continue working towards making a comeback”

Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali has admitted that he deserved to be dropped for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe due to his struggles with the bat as of late.

Azhar failed to have an impact with the bat in the historic Test against Ireland as he made scores of four and two.

In the two-Test series against England that followed, Azhar scored 67 runs, which included a half-century, at an average of 16.75.

While the national selectors overlooked him for the T20 tri-series against Zimbabwe and Australia, and the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, Azhar has made it clear that he intends to regain his spot in the national team.

“Selectors must have named a squad bearing in mind the requirements of the team,” the 33-year-old was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune. “I’m not unhappy with the decision and will continue working towards making a comeback. Pakistan have given me everything and that keeps me motivated to serve the country for many years to come.”

Azhar revealed that he plans to work on his batting and fitness while the national team are touring Zimbabwe.

“I will join the summer camp to improve my fitness and eradicate some of the weaknesses in my game,” he said.

While he won’t be going to Zimbabwe, Azhar warned the Pakistan team not to underestimate Zimbabwe during the T20 tri-series and ODI series.

“Zimbabwe won’t be pushovers as they will have the advantage of home conditions,” he said. “Pakistan are in good form but they will have to execute their game plans properly if they are to succeed.”

The T20 tri-series begins on July 1, while the ODI series gets underway on July 13.
