The Chennai Super Kings have signed England all-rounder David Willey as a replacement for batsman Kedar Jadhav.

Jadhav was ruled out for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after sustaining a grade two hamstring injury while batting during his side’s victory over the Mumbai Indians on Saturday.

With Willey to join the Super Kings, Yorkshire have expressed their concern at having lost another member of their squad. Yorkshire also lost pace bowler Liam Plunkett after he was signed by the Delhi Daredevils as a replacement for South Africa pace bowler Kagiso Rabada.

“We find ourselves in an impossible situation with these late replacement requests,” Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “At the moment, we are potentially looking at a situation where if we deny a player an opportunity, we will be left with someone who is not completely focused on playing for Yorkshire. This would be counter-productive.”

Moxon is determined to change the rules that prevents a late IPL call-up when it comes to county players.

“I will be chairing a meeting with other directors of cricket on Tuesday at Edgbaston to discuss the future of the game,” he said. “I will be calling for the introduction of a cut-off date, after which players will not be allowed to go to the IPL. Hopefully this can gain national approval and be supported by the ECB.”
