Pakistan have been dealt a huge blow as spinner Yasir Shah will miss the upcoming tour of England with a hip bone stress fracture.

He will also be sidelined for the the historic Test match against Ireland, which will be the latter’s first-ever Test match. The fixture will get underway on May 11 in Dublin.

Due to his injury, Yasir was unable to attend the fitness tests being held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

He will require four weeks of rest before needing an additional six weeks of rehabilitation.

“Yasir is ruled out of the Ireland and England Test tours and it’s a big blow,” chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “It’s a big loss for the team.”

With the 31-year-old out of action, 19-year-old leg-spinner Shadab Khan, who has only played one Test thus far, is set to take Yasir’s spot in the squad. Off-spinner Bilal Asif and left-arm spinner Kashif Bhatti could also make the cut.

Pakistan’s team for the two-Test series against England will be named after the fitness tests.

The Test series will begin on May 24 at Lord’s, while the second Test will be held at Headingley in Leeds on June 1.
